
During the Meeting
On November 21, Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), along with his delegation, visited the School of International Governance Innovation (SIGI) at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and held an exchange and discussion. The two sides engaged in dialogues on topics including China-ASEAN cooperation, international governance, and Global South studies.

Remarks by Professor Zhao Longyue
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Zhao Longyue, Dean of SIGI, briefly introduced the construction progress and major achievements of both SIGI and the Institute of Global South Studies since their establishment. Secretary-General Shi Zhongjun spoke highly of the School’s efforts and achievements in serving the national strategy of opening up, maintaining a strategic vision focused on international governance and Global South studies, and accelerating the cultivation of comprehensive and interdisciplinary talents in international governance.

Remarks by Secretary-General Shi Zhongjun
Secretary-General Shi Zhongjun systematically introduced the latest developments in ASEAN and China-ASEAN relations. He focused on the current key areas of work in China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation, the digital economy, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as the functions and major measures of the ASEAN-China Centre in serving pragmatic cooperation between the two sides.
The two sides engaged in extensive discussions on strengthening joint research with ASEAN universities and think tanks. They also explored initiatives to co-host forums and training programs for the Global South, as well as opportunities to facilitate student internships at relevant ASEAN institutions. Looking ahead, the School will fully leverage its interdisciplinary strengths, partnerships with international organizations, and the strategic location of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. By deepening cooperation with ASEAN academic institutions in international governance, Global South studies, and youth talent cultivation, the School aims to contribute to a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future and a more vibrant landscape of Global South cooperation.
